The Future of Smash Juku

The Smash Juku project was started 2 years ago for fans of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to learn under-popularized techniques and mechanics that gave the game more depth than meets the eye.  With contributions of information from across the web we catalogued the largest concentrated repository of that information.  With the release of the latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch, however, it remained to be seen how much of the site information from the previous game would remain relevant in transition from one title to the next, and while much remains the same there have nevertheless been fundamental changes to the core mechanics, physics and engine that render a good deal of the current information deprecated.

This places the project in a unique position.  Should the website be repurposed from the ground up for the new game, abandoning all the previous game data?  Should the site be reworked to provide information for both titles, acting as an archive for the previous game while dual-serving information for the new one?  Or should an entirely new site be separately developed to allow for these repositories to exist and continue growing separately?

There are many under-the-hood development considerations as well that will inform the direction we take.  Smash Juku was an opportunity to become acquainted with a whole host of new tools, and with the experience of hindsight I now feel there are other frameworks and systems that could prove more dynamic, robust and add greater value for the site's intended purpose of cataloguing useful information for an ever-changing community of gamers.

With respect to these various considerations I'll be deciding in the coming months what direction Smash Juku should take, so there may be a scarcity of activity during this evaluation period as decisions take shape.  Stay tuned, changes are afoot!
