C-Bounce

Summary

C-Bounce is a custom control setup method that uses a C-stick set to "attack" in order to more easily and consistently perform the wavebounce advanced technique.

The wavebounce advanced technique does not require a custom control scheme in order to perform, which holds true for both aerial and grounded wavebounces.  However, under a standard control scheme wavebounce can be difficult to execute because of sensitive input requirements, especially for the neutral B-Special grounded version which adheres to a very strict input timing because of the possibility of initiating the turnaround animation when attempting the initial turnaround B-Special attack, the potential of inputting the directional stick too far and accidentally executing a side B-Special, or if the timing is off executing a B-Reverse instead of the initial turnaround B-Special.

Requirements
  • C-Stick control must be set to "Attack" instead of the standard "Smash Attack"
  • Only certain B-special moves can be wavebounced (e.g., counters can't be wavebounced)
  • For grounded wavebounce, must be running at full dash (short dashes won't work)
  • An optional (but helpful) custom control setup relegates a shoulder button to "Special" to use for this technique instead of the B-button, as the simultaneous input of the C-Stick direction and the B-button special required by this technique is difficult without using "Claw" fingering
How To Perform
  • Move in a direction either on the ground or in the air.
  • Input the B-special move you wish to wavebounce.  Simultaneously pull the C-stick opposite the direction you're moving.
  • If timed correctly, your character should perform a wavebounce.
Uses
  • More easily perform Wavebounce
  • Opens new defensive and attack opportunities
  • Mindgame opponents with movement mixup
Pros & Cons
  • Makes Wavebounce (especially the grounded version) easier to perform
  • Opens up Wavebounce attack/defense/mixup opportunities
  • Grounded Wavebounce usefulness varies from character to character (e.g., it is more useful for Marth's Shield Breaker because his grounded Wavebounce covers more distance, compared to Mario's Fireball where grounded Wavebounce moves him very little)
  • Requires custom control setup
