R.O.B. Picture

R.O.B. the "Robotic Operating Buddy" first appeared as a hardware accessory to the 1985 Nintendo side-scrolling puzzle games "Gyromite" and "Stack-Up".  Players issue R.O.B. commands to physically spin gyros and place them on levers, which directly affects the game.  In Gyromite, R.O.B. helps professors Hector & Vector (players 1 & 2, respectively) traverse a laboratory filled with dynamite and bird-like enemies called "Smicks".  In Stack-Up, R.O.B. helps Professor Hector organize blocks against "glitch" enemies Spike and Flipper, or against Professor Vector.

R.O.B. first appeared in the Smash franchise as a fighter in "Super Smash Bros.: Brawl".  In Smash 4, R.O.B. is a floaty heavyweight with good recovery, grab game, attack power, safe disjoints and strong zoning thanks to a variety of useful projectiles.
