Summary
Normally, inputting an aerial attack will cause your character to throw any item they're holding. Z-Drop Aerials is an offensive technique that gives you access to aerial attacks without losing an item you're holding. This is achieved by releasing the item using the Z-button (aka Z-Drop) as you descend and then inputting the aerial, which will not only perform the attack but simultaneously re-grab the released item
Requirements
- Must be playing with throwable items on, or with characters that produce throwable items
- Will not work for characters with tethers, as the Z-button item release causes tether to execute for a set amount of time that prevents inputting any aerials to item re-grab as required by this technique
How To Perform
- Jump into the air while holding an item.
- As you begin to fall, press the Z-button to momentarily release the item.
- Input an aerial attack.
- If performed with the correct timing, your aerial will simultaneously attack and re-grab the released item.
Uses
- Can use to gain access to aerial attack options without losing control of an item
- Can use to perform combos that begin with an aerial attack and followup with an item toss
Pros & Cons
- Allows you access to offensive options without losing the item
- Gives you access to item toss followups on aerial attack
- Can become predictable/punishable if overused
