Summary
Tilt, down-smash attacks and grabs for certain characters can be carried across the ground in a slide by executing a turnaround when dashing towards a platform/stage edge.
Requirements
- Must be at or near a ledge to perform
- Only works on tilts, down-smash attacks and grabs for certain characters
- Some characters don't slide (e.g., Bowser, Roy)
- Other characters can slide from ledge, but don't need this technique as they always slide from turnaround regardless of ledge presence (e.g., Marth, Donkey Kong)
How To Perform
- When near ledge
- Run towards a platform/stage edge
- At the ledge, perform a turnaround
- As your turnaround momentum carries you away from the ledge, input a tilt, down-smash attack or grab
- When at ledge
- Stand exactly at platform/stage ledge
- Dash quickly away from ledge, but then cancel this dash immediately into a dash back towards the ledge (this is pivot dash)
- As you dash into the ledge, perform a turnaround
- As your turnaround momentum carries you away from the ledge, input a tilt, down-smash attack or grab
Uses
- Carry your tilt, down-smash attacks and grabs in a slide across the ground as you move away from a ledge
Pros & Cons
- Gives extended reach for tilts, down-smash attacks and grabs near ledges by carrying them in a slide
- Can punish unsuspecting enemies with attacks that otherwise wouldn't reach
- Can open up combo opportunities (character and damage dependent)
- Modifies positioning from ledge in a safe way
- Can be used to condition opponents, but also can become predictable/punishable if overused
- Only works or is only necessary for certain characters for certain attacks
- If turnaround is missed, might fall off edge and potentially shift neutral state to opponent's advantage
